BBC will extend online catch-up to whole series
Viewers will be able to watch any episode of some BBC series for the entire duration of the series, following the introduction of a new “stacking” feature on iPlayer next month.
The facility, due to go live on 13 September, will allow users to access some programmes for much longer than the current seven-day window.
It will be available on 15% of all BBC content and on a maximum of 13 episodes per series.
“Series Stacking will really make the unmissable, unmissable,” said Simon Nelson, BBC Vision controller of multiplatform and portfolio.
“Now, you’ll be able to join a series half way through following a friend’s recommendation and catch up on all the previous episodes – or watch them all in one go over a weekend.
“Series stacking marks a key development in our strategy to let audiences view our programmes whenever and wherever they want.”
