Richard Flewitt’s Top 10 Tips for Creating Video Messages
Visit Richard’s website at http://www.video-consultancy.com/video_tutorials/ for more information.
1. Find a position for your camera so that the lens is at roughly eye level – not down on your desk, or high up on top of your computer monitor. This way your audience will see you as they would in conversation.
2. Make sure that the strongest source of light is in front of you and not behind you. Most web-cams automatically adjust to the brightest light, so if for example, you have a window behind you, the window will look good and you will be too dark.
3. Look behind you. What does the camera see over your shoulder? Try to create a tidy, clear background that won’t distract you audience.
4. Think carefully about the very first picture your audience sees; the first impression sets the tone of your whole message. A great tip is to look away from the camera and create a picture in your mind of someone you really care for. When you look back to camera, see that person right behind, or inside the camera – the result will be a natural, engaging smile.
5. Remember that with video you are creating a relationship with one person at a time. Although the video may be on the internet where millions of people may see it, you are talking only to that one person who clicks on your message.
