Google Maps About To Overtake MapQuest

Friday, February 27th, 2009 |

Although MapQuest is still the leader in the online map space, Google Maps is getting closer and closer to overtaking the market share. Back in January 2008, Google Maps held just over 20% of the market share while MapQuest held strong at over 50%. By February 7 of 2009, however, Google upped its market share to 36%, while MapQuest dropped to 39%. With the two applications now almost neck and neck, MapQuest has been adding new features in an attempt to regain its foothold. With Google maps blended so well in search results, it is not likely that MapQuest will be able to hold on much longer.

Google Content Network - Is It Really A Bust?

Friday, February 27th, 2009 |

I talk to a lot of clients who mention the Google Content Network for their PPC campaigns. While many online marketing professionals are dismissive of this channel, I have found some very effective uses, especially given the enhanced targeting ability that Google provides with the Placement Targeting feature. I was reminded of this recently when viewing a case study of a Levi’s and Nike co-advertising campaign.

With the current economic climate, this year’s Super Bowl wouldn’t be expected to be as super as it usually is. Social media.

AdWords Tip: Identify Negative Keywords

Friday, February 27th, 2009 |

A useful PPC optimization strategy that is often overlooked is including negative keywords in your campaign. Negative keywords are used in AdWords to prevent your ads from being served for irrelevant searches. To paint a clearer picture, assume you are bidding on the term “bass” because you sell bass guitars. If you are bidding on “bass” with broad match, your ad could be served in searches for “bass fishing”. Anyone searching for “bass fishing” is unlikely to purchase a bass guitar from your site. If you included the term “bass fishing” in your negative keywords, you would not be wasting the impression and possible click. In addition, by adding negative keywords, your cost per click is likely to decrease as your click through rate increases.

Global Internet Marketers and local SEM Experts Win-Win Situation

Friday, February 27th, 2009 |

There are a few different kinds of internet marketing people. Some of them would like to do internet marketing seminars, training and product selling, others like to focus on search engine marketing services. The internet marketing is a very hot industry that many corporates are willing to pay big dollars to them as time goes by. More and more rivals would be taken place between players in the future as the number of people working in this field getting higher and higher.
Internet marketing companies are often started as a regional search engine marketing company then to a global internet marketing company. To be listed well in regional search engines, one must be very focusing on that regional search engine marketplace and this is usually hard to achieve for global marketing company because different countries would have their own mindset on perceiving ideas. It is obvious to see that in an example of the search engine terms between Hong Kong, Taiwan and China. They almost use the same language but their terms can be a huge different.
